How to enable debug logging on X-Forwarded-For for ISA Server & TMG

Problem: When troubleshooting X-Forwarded-For for ISA Server / TMG it is sometimes required to enable debug logging. Debug logging is disabled by default but can be enabled / disabled by running a script which is included with the installation media.

To Enable Debug logging:

  1. Create a C:\Logs folder. Note, the "Logs" folder must be located at the root of drive C:.
  2. Ensure that "Network Service" has Full Control rights to the C:\Logs folder.
  3. Run the following script from the XFF installation media - scripts\LoggingOn.js
  4. Restart the Microsoft Firewall service.
  5. Create web traffic and restart the Microsoft Firewall service again to flush the log data.
  6. Log files will be created in the C:\Logs folder.

To Disable Debug Logging:

  1. Run the following script from the XFF installation media - scripts\LoggingOff.js
  2. Restart the Microsoft Firewall service.
  3. Archive the log file in the C:\Logs folder (if required) then remove the C:\Logs folder.
