Q:
What's new in Service Pack 2 for VPN-Q 2006?

A:
Service Pack 2 (Version 2.0.2282.0) includes various fixes and new features based on customer feedback and product advancements.

The SP2 client will be made available via the client auto update engine. To fully benefit from all the new features the server component must be upgraded and a new client setup package may need to be created and distributed.

Service Pack 2 Fixes / Updates

  • Fixed “Enable save password” option setting to be remembered after server UI restart.
  • Fixed issue to stop RAS credentials being forwarded to servers over the VPN for authentication to resources. This eliminates erroneous logon prompts when using 2 factor authentication solutions or an alternative directory provider.
  • Updated default security setting so that the client attempts to use L2TP/IPSEC before PPTP on initial connection.
  • Fixed issue where removal of an ISA rule using the VPN-Q Config Wizard would not remove the custom rule elements. Unused elements are now removed as expected.
  • Improved logging and UI detail for WSUS / Windows Update usage. (Auto-update)
  • Removed all Firewall checks from Free Edition. (Auto-update)
  • Includes all SP1 and Client Update 1 updates.

Service Pack 2 Enhancements

  • Added full client support for Windows Vista. (Auto-update)
  • Manual and "Auto" pre-shared key functionality for L2TP/IPSEC connections added to Standard and Enterprise Editions. This allows simple IPSEC deployment without certificates.
  • Added support for Server Administrator to function on non English versions of Windows Server 2003 SP1. Note: Server Administrator is still only available in English language.
  • Includes all SP1 and Client Update 1 enhancements.

Auto-update: VPN-Q includes an auto-update engine that will update the client component automatically - provided that this feature has not been disabled in Enterprise Edition. Not all the updates in SP2 can be deployed via this mechanism as many of the updates in SP2 relate to the server administrator or the Microsoft Connection Manager. SP2 fixes that are available via auto-update are indicated in the list above.
