Since our first appliance shipped in 2008 we have built the hardware to be able to run real world 64bit workloads. As such, if you are already a Winfrasoft appliance customer then the good news is that your hardware is ALREADY capable of running Forefront TMG 2010 / UAG 2010.
We are committed to continuously adding value for our customers and therefore certain appliances qualify for an upgrade so long as there is a valid support agreement in place for the appliance. The upgrade cost will vary depending on the level of support in place.

Are you presently using another vendor's ISA 2006 or IAG 2007 appliance only to find that you CANNOT UPGRADE IT? You are not alone!

Some vendors have launched upgrade programs, e.g. the Celestix Comprehensive Upgrade Program and the nAppliance upgrade scheme, which on the surface may sound like a solution to move to TMG and UAG.
Consider the following:

  • Will the existing hardware actually be up to the task if it only just meets the MINIMUM requirements? Keep in Mind that Windows Server 2008 is "Windows 7 Server", not "XP Server". Check your hardware here.
  • Will you require a hardware replacement to upgrade, and if so, at what true cost?
  • If you are offered a FREE upgrade check what "free" actually means.
  • Do you have to purchase an extra year (or more) support upfront to qualify for an upgrade?

The fact is that many proprietary appliances on the market today "may" meet the minimum requirement for the upgrade but will do a poor job once in production. The knowledge of the required hardware spec for the new OS and software has been known (or could be assumed) for a long time so there is no reason that you should have been charged a lot of money for hardware which is not up to spec to run TMG and UAG. Even if your current vendor offers you a 25% discount to upgrade to a new appliance, do you want to get caught with sub-standard hardware again, or look to pay less and get tier-1 upgradable hardware?
